This Domaine has been in Claire Laval’s family since 1867 when its 7 hectares were included in her great-grandmother’s dowry. She returned to Bordeaux in 1983 upon the retirement of her father, exchanging a career in agronomy for that of the vines and cellar. She is currently the only woman making wine in Pomerol, and hers is the only certified domaine in this small appelation. Biodynamics has been introduced and she is a member of La Renaissance des Appellations.
The Cadet de Gombaude is the second wine of the estate. It is an 80/20 blend of merlot and cabernet franc. The wine is produced from her younger vines, now roughly 20 years of age, which are planted amidst her older vines. Younger fruit but the same terroir. The wine is bold yet, when given a handful of years in bottle, silken and refined.
