Domaine de l’Octavin is the youthful creation of Alice Bouvet and Charles Dagnand of Arbois. Committed to biodynamics since its inception in 2005, they are now working all of 5 hectares planted with the traditional varietals of the region: trousseau, poulsard and pinot for the reds, savagnin and chardonnay for the whites. None of their wines see added sulfur; to wit, tout sans souffre.
The reds, whether the 100% poulsard of the ‘Dorabella’ bottling, or the blends of ‘Zerlina’ or ‘Commendatore’, all possess a distinctively Jura bouquet. Nutmeg, exposed earth, springtime at dawn. Crushed leaves and ineffible funk. Wines that make you think.
The whites are both done Jura-style – slightly oxidized – and fresh. ‘Reine de la Nuit’ is liquid walnut and agave. ‘Comtesse . . A’, rosewater and melon.
A continually evolving symphony put to Proustian effect.
